Use of To preposition with examples

Prepositions

Definition: It is a word or phrase that is used before a noun or its equivalent or Pronoun to show place, time, direction, etc… 

There are seven kinds of prepositions:

• Simple prep: Out, On, To, Through, Up, In With, etc...

• Compound Prep: Without, Within, Upon, Into, Throughout, Onto, etc.

• Single Prep: With, Of, To, Up, Along, In, Together, Out, Between, On, etc,

• Double Prep: Up with, Out of, In between, On to, Along with, Up to, together with, etc...

• Participle Prep: Owing to, According to, Relating to, Regarding, Concerning, Concerned with, Pertaining to, Notwithstanding, Associated with, etc...

• Phrase Prep: In case of, On account of, Because of, In spite of, Instead of, In place of, In lieu of, On behalf of, Due to, By Means of, In regard to, In relate to, In connection with, In the context of, In according with, In order to, So as to, As to, With a view to, etc...

• Disguised Prep: To, with, In, Of, Into, From, On, etc...

General and exceptional usage of the preposition

“To” special

To (में) – दिशा के नाम के पहले ( बहरी स्थिति रहने पर)

E.g. – Sri Lanka is located to the South (दक्षिण में ) of India.

 

To (के प्रति ) – समर्पण  का भाव रहने पर।

E.g. We, the Indians, are devoted to our parents.

 

To (की और) – उद्देश्य सूचक भाव रहने पर।

E.g- Labour leads a man to success. (सफलता की और)

Towards का प्रयोग उद्देश्यहीनता , क्रिया की गतिशीलता रहने पर।

 

To( के लिए) – somebody के ठीक पहले

E.g. To/For me, It is an easy question

Or, This is an easy question for me .

 

To (से) – जिस adjective की spelling  “……. or ” पर समाप्त हो, ऐसे adjective के ठीक बाद To  का प्रयोग  जाता है, तुलना करते समय।

E.g. – I’m Senior to him. (उस से)

Senior to, Junior to, Inferior to , Superior to, etc.

 

To (को ) –

Rule: Direct  object  (वस्तु) + to  (को) + Indirect Object (व्यक्ति)

E.g.- I shall give Raju a gift

Or, I shall give a gift to Raju.

Passive Voice में,  ( V ₃ ➟to ➟ Indirect Object )

E.g.- Grammar was taught to the students by Sk sir.

 

To (के पास) –

E.g. – He came to me.(मेरे पास)

 

To (के तक ) – अंतिम समय  या अंतिम पड़ाव के ठीक पहले  ( निम्नतम स्तर  or  निश्चित बिंदु)

E.g.- This train runs from Madhupur to Patna. (मधुपुर तक)

The temperature reached to 4^oC  (4^oC तक )

 

To (द्वारा/से)- Passive  Voice में  Known ( V₃ ) के ठीक बाद।

E.g.- Generally, the Indian is known to his or for father.(अपने पिता द्वारा/से जाना जाता है)
