Hi, friends, This is Sudhir, and Today, I’ll introduce you to all connectors in a bilingual format, Hindi and English, which we generally know as linkers and conjunctions by means of examples and their meanings.
(some adverbs are also there)
Conjunctions with the letter “A”
above all —सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात – most importantly; before everything else
- Money is important, but above all, we must not do any unethical acts for the temptation of money. (धन महत्वपूर्ण है, लेकिन सबसे बढ़कर हमें धन के लालच में कोई अनैतिक कार्य नहीं करना चाहिए।)
- I know you’ve always a very busy schedule, but you also have a family and need to spend a little bit of time with your family above all. (मुझे पता है कि आपका हमेशा बहुत व्यस्त कार्यक्रम होता है, लेकिन आपका इन सबसे ऊपर एक परिवार भी है और आपको अपने परिवार के साथ थोड़ा समय बिताने की जरूरत है।)

actually —ठीक-ठीक/वास्तव में,सचमुच,सच्चाई में – in fact, really, practically, virtually

after — बाद में – behind, next to, later in time

- After assigning the driver to pick up the parcel, I went to receive my father from the airport.
- She starts acting very pricy after receiving compliments.
- He always goes after the dazzling girl in order to persuade her to full fill his carnal pleasure.(पार्सल लेने का काम ड्राइवर को सौंपने के बाद, मैं अपने पिता को हवाई अड्डे से रिसीव करने गया।)
afterwards —बाद में – at a later time, after something else has happened
- I came back to my home around 1 PM, and soon/shortly afterwards I talked to my mother for the GF that I want to tie a knot with her. (मैं दोपहर 1 बजे के आसपास अपने घर वापस आया, और जल्द ही/थोड़ी देर बाद मैंने अपनी मां से अपनी प्रेमिका के लिए बात किया कि मैं उसके साथ शादी के बंधन में बंधना चाहता हूं।)
- There was an accident taken place over there, and soon afterwards the environment became very (so) intense. (वहाँ एक दुर्घटना हो गई, और इसके तुरंत बाद ही माहौल बहुत खराफ़ हो गया।)
all in all — सब मिलाकर – considering everything; in general
- All in all, it was a great speech delivered by you. (कुल मिलाकर यह आपके द्वारा दिया गया एक बेहतरीन भाषण था।)
- Your mouth always smells of onions; however, I can’t dump you since you’re my all in all (आपके मुंह से हमेशा प्याज की महक आती है; फिर भी , मैं आपको छोड़ नहीं सकता क्योंकि आप ही मेरे सब कुछ हो। )
almost — लग-भग/करीब-करीब – only a little less than, nearly, not quite
- Her interview with the teacher went really awesome despite having poor communication in English. He almost nailed that.(अंग्रेजी में ठीक नहीं होने के बावजूद भी एक शिक्षक का उनका साक्षात्कार वास्तव में बहुत बढ़िया रहा। वह लगभग उसमे सफल रहा ।)
- I was almost trapped by their devious trick.
Although/though—यद्यपि/हालांकि – in spite of the fact that; to change direction; despite the fact that
apart from —के अलावा – besides, including
- Apart from running my shop, I’ve my own website through which I make some amount of money.(अपनी दुकान चलाने के अलावा, मेरी अपनी वेबसाइट है जिसके माध्यम से मैं कुछ पैसे कमाता हूँ।)
- Apart from cricket, I do like playing football. (मुझे क्रिकेट के अलावा फुटबॉल खेलना पसंद है।)
Except —के अलावा – excluding
- Is there anybody available in this WhatsApp group to have a word with me except her? (क्या इस व्हाट्सएप ग्रुप में उसके अलावा (उसको छोड़के) मेरे साथ बात करने के लिए कोई उपलब्ध है?)
- I can watch any movie unlimited times except that one. (मैं उसके अलावा (उसको छोड़के) कोई भी फिल्म असीमित बार देख सकता हूं।)
As a matter of fact —वास्तव में/असल में/सच तो यह है कि
—actually;in fact
- I know you hate him, but as a matter of fact, he has helped you at every corner of your life. (मुझे पता है कि आप उससे नफरत करते हैं, लेकिन वास्तव में, उसने आपके जीवन के हर कोने में आपकी मदद की है।)

- I would like to have a cup of tea as well as a slice of ginger garlic bread.
At least — कम से कम – smallest
- I need at least 10 guys to start my business. (मुझे अपना व्यवसाय शुरू करने के लिए कम से कम 10 लोगों की आवश्यकता है।)
- You need to practise at least 30 to 40 minutes every single day in order to improve your English. (अपनी अंग्रेजी सुधारने के लिए आपको हर दिन कम से कम 30 से 40 मिनट का अभ्यास करने की आवश्यकता है।)
Conjunctions with the letter “B”
because —क्योंकि/चूंकि – for the reason that
- Don’t cry because it won’t heal your wound. (रोओ मत क्योंकि इससे तुम्हारा घाव नहीं भरेगा।)
- I’ve been working like hell because I’ve great responsibility and that can only be fulfilled by means of money and nothing else. (मैं पागलों की तरह काम कर रहा हूं क्योंकि मुझ पर बहुत बड़ी जिम्मेदारी है और इसे केवल पैसे से ही पूरा किया जा सकता है और किसी से नहीं।)
because of=on account of=by virtue of= owing to = due to = as a result of – के कारण/की वजह से
- I missed my train because of/on account of/by virtue of not reaching the station on time. (समय पर स्टेशन नहीं पहुंचने के कारण मेरी ट्रेन छूट गई।)
- I can’t go outside home owing to a back injury. (मैं, पीठ की चोट के कारण घर से बाहर नहीं जा सकता।)
- I got engaged in an altercation and exchanged hot words with him due to commenting vulgar words about my sis.(मेरी बहन के बारे में अभद्र टिप्पणी करने के कारण मेरा विवाद हो गया और उसके साथ मेरा तू-तू में-में हो गया ।)

besides — के अतिरिक्त / साथ ही – in addition to
- I can play cricket besides football. (मैं फुटबॉल के अलावा क्रिकेट खेल सकता हूं।)
- I can speak Bangla besides Hindi and English. (मैं हिंदी और अंग्रेजी के अलावा बांग्ला भी बोल सकता हूं।)
- In addition to playing cricket, I can play football. (मैं क्रिकेट खेलने के अलावा फुटबॉल भी खेल सकता हूं।)
- In addition to the apartment, I’ve a big mansion in Delhi. (अपार्टमेंट के अलावा दिल्ली में मेरी एक बड़ी हवेली है।)
beyond that — उस बिंदु से परे –
- Understanding a girl thoroughly is beyond my comprehension. (किसी लड़की को अच्छे से समझना मेरी समझ से परे है।)
by means of — की मदद से/की सहायता से – with the help of
- Anybody can transform his or her life by means of being persistent and consistent at something. (कोई भी व्यक्ति किसी चीज पर लगातार और लगातार बने रहकर अपने जीवन को बदल सकता है।)
- You can learn magic by the means of some basic tricks. (आप कुछ बेसिक ट्रिक्स की मदद से जादू सीख सकते हैं।)
Conjunctions with the letter “C”
currently —वर्तमान में – at the present time; now
- Currently, I’m working as a software engineer.
Conjunctions with the letter “D”
definitely —निश्चित रूप से – exactly
- Definitely, you’ll succeed one day, my friend, if you keep working persistently.

despite — इसके बावजूद/के बावजूद – without being affected by; in spite of; to do something regardless of its consequence, with no respect to someone’s feelings
- Despite studying hard, I couldn’t crack the exam. (बहुत मेहनत करने के बाद भी मैं परीक्षा में सफल नहीं हो सका।)
- Despite being educated enough, it’s being very difficult to get a job since I have poor communication skills. (अच्छा खासा पढ़ा-लिखा होने के बावजूद भी , नौकरी पाना बहुत मुश्किल हो रहा है क्योंकि मेरा कम्युनिकेशन खराब है।)
Conjunctions with the letter “E”
even so —फिर भी – all the same, nevertheless; apart from
- There was just a little money left in his wallet even so he recharged his GF’s number. (उसके बटुए में थोड़े ही पैसे बचे थे फिर भी उसने अपने GF का नंबर रिचार्ज कर दिया।)
even though —भले ही – although; in spite of the fact
- I was humiliated at the party even though it was all your doing. (पार्टी में मुझे अपमानित किया गया, भले ही यह सब आपका किया कराया था। )
Conjunctions with the letter “F”
finally, eventually, in the end — अंततः/आख़िरकार – after a long time
- Finally, we’ve made it true. (अंत में, हमने इसे सच कर दिया है।
- I was very nervous at the beginning but finally, I’ve cracked the interview.
first(ly), first of all, to begin with – सबसे पहले/पहले – used to introduce the first idea, reason, etc. in a series
- Before going to share my opinion on this topic, first of all, I would like to thank you to the host for giving me this opportunity. (इस विषय पर अपनी राय साझा करने से पहले, सबसे पहले, मुझे यह अवसर देने के लिए मैं मेजबान को धन्यवाद देना चाहता हूं।)

furthermore/moreover/in addition — और भी/के अतिरिक्त – what’s more; in addition; used before a statement that is connected to what you have just said and adds something to it
- The food was tasty and, moreover, the staffs were very friendly. (भोजन स्वादिष्ट था और इसके अलावा, कर्मचारी बहुत मिलनसार थे।)
- She is beautiful. Moreover, she has a loving heart. (वह सुंदर है। इसके अलावा, उसके पास एक प्यार करने वाला दिल है।)
- This smartphone has 6 Gb RAM. Furthermore, the battery power is extremely good. (इस स्मार्टफोन में 6 जीबी रैम है। इसके अलावा, बैटरी पावर बेहद अच्छी है।)
Conjunctions with the letter “H”
However — तथापि/फिर भी/लेकिन/तो भी/जितना/वहीं दूसरी और – but, yet, on the other hand, by contrast.
- I’m starving; however, I’ve nothing to eat. (मैं भूख से मरा जा रहा हूं; फिर भी, मेरे पास खाने के लिए कुछ नहीं है।)
- She can cook pulses. However, she doesn’t know how to season them. (वह दाल पका सकती है लेकिन , वह नहीं जानती कि उन्हें तड़का कैसे लगाना है.)
- However money you want, you can take but get your tongue-tied about the matter. (जितना पैसा आपको चाहिए ले लो, लेकिन उस मामले में अपनी जुबान पे ताला लगा लो।)

Conjunctions with the letter “I”
in brief —संक्षेप में – to advise or to summarize instructions in short
- There are lots of things to talk about your performance but in brief, I’ll just say it was amazing. (आपके प्रदर्शन के बारे में बात करने के लिए बहुत सी चीजें हैं लेकिन संक्षेप में, मैं सिर्फ इतना कहूंगा कि यह अद्भुत था।)
in conclusion —निष्कर्ष के तौर पर – the end or finish of an event or process.
- In conclusion, it was clear that we’re going to lose the match against Pakistan. (अंत में, यह स्पष्ट था कि हम पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ मैच हारने जा रहे हैं।)
in order to —के लिए/जिससे कि/के बदले में – for the purpose of
- One has to burn the midnight oil in order to get success. (सफलता पाने के लिए जी तोड़ मेहनत करनी पड़ती है।)
- You’ve to climb up to the mountain within 10 minutes in order to win this competition. (इस प्रतियोगिता को जीतने के लिए आपको 10 मिनट के भीतर पहाड़ पर चढ़ना होगा।)
in other words —दूसरे शब्दों में – saying something in another way
- He’s only solved 10 questions out of 20-in other words, he’s going to be failed in the exam. (उसने 20 में से केवल 10 प्रश्नों को हल किया है-दूसरे शब्दों में, वह परीक्षा में अनुत्तीर्ण होने जा रहा है।)
- My teacher has a big mansion and two BMW cars-in other words, he’s quite rich. (मेरे शिक्षक के पास एक बड़ी हवेली और दो बीएमडब्ल्यू कारें हैं-दूसरे शब्दों में, वह काफी अमीर है।)
in short —संक्षिप्त – briefly
- Whenever I needed him in my life, he was there-in short, he is a benevolent guy indeed. (जब भी मुझे अपने जीवन में उसकी जरूरत पड़ी, वह वहां था-संक्षेप में, वह एक दयालु व्यक्ति है।)
in spite of —इसके बावजूद/के होते हुए भी – regardless of, despite, notwithstanding
Instead of/in lieu — के बजाय/के बदले/की जगह/के स्थान में – in place of, or as an alternative to
- She bought ice cream instead of/in lieu of buying fruits. (उसने फल खरीदने के बजाय आइसक्रीम खरीदी।)
It’s often claimed that — –
- It’s often claimed that two opposite genders can never be best friend. (अक्सर यह दावा किया जाता है कि दो विपरीत लिंग वाले कभी भी best friend नहीं हो सकते।)
Conjunctions with the letter “J”
just as well — – just the same, it does not matter; a good or fortunate things
- It will be just as well to keep updating the people about our plans. (अपनी योजनाओं के बारे में लोगों को अपडेट करते रहना अच्छा ही होगा।)
- It will be just as well to keep warning our WhatsApp members to be active or else, you’ll be removed.
- It will be just as well to keep learning sth new every day even though it is not required in my case. (हर दिन कुछ नया सीखते रहना अच्छा ही होगा, भले ही मेरे मामले में इसकी आवश्यकता न हो।)
Conjunctions with the letter “L”
Last but not least, /Finally — अंतिम पर कम नहीं/पहले से कम नहीं – importantly, despite being mentioned after everyone else
- I would like to thank Mr. X, Mr. Y, and, last but not least Mr. Z. (मैं मिस्टर एक्स, मिस्टर वाई, और, अंतिम लेकिन पहले जितना ही महत्वपूर्ण मिस्टर जेड को धन्यवाद देना चाहता हूं।)

mainly/mostly/especially —मुख्य रूप से/अधिकतर/विशेष रूप से –

- It’s still pouring outside there. We might as well wait right here for a while. (बाहर अभी भी बारिश हो रही है। हमारे लिए अच्छा यही होगा की हम यहीं थोड़ा देर इंतजार करें।)
moreover — इसके अलावा/के अतिरिक्त/ – Besides; in addition to what was just stated
Conjunctions with the letter “N”
Nevertheless/Nonetheless/however — फिर भी – in spite of that; however
- I work for 10 hours. Nevertheless, I can’t even fulfil my basic needs. (मैं 10 घंटे काम करता हूं। फिर भी, मैं अपनी बुनियादी जरूरतों को भी पूरा नहीं कर सकता।)
- I work for 10 hours. Nonetheless, I can’t even fulfil my basic needs.
- I work for 10 hours, but nonetheless, I can’t even fulfil my basic needs.
- Despite being bad, he is nonetheless/nevertheless a bad person for the poor. (बुरा होते हुए भी वह गरीबों के लिए बुरा इंसान हैं।)
- The food was quite spicy, but I savoured that nonetheless. (खाना काफी मसालेदार था, लेकिन फिर भी मैंने उसका स्वाद चखा।)
First, next, then, after that, finally—अगला, फिर, उसके बाद – subsequently
- First, take a pan and a glass of water. Next, light up the stove and put the pan over it. Then, add tea leaves to it. After that, when the mixture starts boiling add half a glass of milk. After that, add sugar suitable to your taste, wait for 2 minutes and then remove the pan off the stove. Finally, put a strainer on the cup and hold another side of it and pour!
Throw the leftover tea of the strainer and enjoy the tea in your cup.

not only… but also — केवल इतना ही नहीं, बल्कि यह भी – Agreement / Addition / Similarity
- He is not only good at writing but also singing. (वह न केवल लिखने में बल्कि गायन में भी अच्छा है।)

- Notwithstanding being humiliated by the host, he kept speaking. (मेजबान द्वारा अपमानित होने के बावजूद, वह बोलता रहा।)
- Backbone pain notwithstanding, he took part in the race. (रीढ़ की हड्डी में दर्द के बावजूद उन्होंने दौड़ में हिस्सा लिया।)
nowadays — आज-कल/इस समय – at the present time
- Nowadays, I’m working on my accent.
Conjunctions with the letter “O”
obviously —स्पष्टतः/साफ साफ – apparently; clearly; easy to see and understand
- Obviously, it was your mistake.
On the contrary — इसके विपरीत; बिलकुल नहीं – certainly not / an opposite or different fact, event, or situation / the opposite is true
- His wife died last night, but, on the contrary, he became happy. (बीती रात उनकी पत्नी की मृत्यु हो गई, लेकिन, इसके विपरीत, वे खुश हुआ। )
- It seems as if she is getting bored, on the contrary, her hubby is having a great time with his friends. (ऐसा लगता है जैसे वह बोर हो रही है, इसके विपरीत, उसका पति अपने दोस्तों के साथ बहुत अच्छा समय बिता रहा है।)

practically — वास्तव में – almost; very nearly

Conjunctions with the letter “S”
since — जबसे/क्योंकि/तब से अब तक
(since then-तब से; since when -कितने समय से) – as; because; for

such as —उदाहरण के लिए/मिसाल के लिये – (adverb) we use this to give an example in the middle of a sentence
- There are many ways to be hale and hearty such as doing exercise, eating healthy food, yoga, meditation, and many other things. (स्वस्थ और तंदुरुस्त रहने के कई तरीके हैं जैसे व्यायाम करना, स्वस्थ भोजन करना, योग, ध्यान और कई अन्य चीजें।)
Conjunctions with the letter “T”
therefore — इसलिए/इस कारण से – for that reason; because of this/that; consequently
- We dumped each other quite a while ago. Therefore, it’s no use going to her to talk about our relationship. (हमने काफी समय पहले एक दूसरे को छोड़ दिया था। इसलिए, हमारे रिश्ते के बारे में बात करने के लिए उसके पास जाने का कोई फायदा नहीं है।)
Thereby —जिससे/इसलिए/इस कारण से –for this/that reason; by means of; because of this/that; consequently as a result of this action

to sum up/to summarise —सारांश में/संक्षिप्त करना – end by restating the main points; summarise; wind up

unless — जब तक/यदि न हो – if not or except when (condition)
- I won’t let you go out unless you complete this assignment.
up to now —अब तक – until now, so far
- Up to now, I’ve not got any clue that can help my innocence. (अब तक, मुझे कोई सुराग नहीं मिला है जो मेरी बेगुनाही में मदद कर सके।)
- Up to yesterday, we were unaware of his nature that he is such a humble person. (कल तक हम उनके स्वभाव से अनजान थे कि वह इतने विनम्र व्यक्ति हैं।)

Conjunctions with the letter “W”
whereas, while, whilst जबकि – but
- I’m an extrovert. Whereas my brother is an introvert.
- The earthquake of 6.0 magnitude hit my state while/when we were having dinner. (जब हम खाना खा रहे थे तब 6.0 तीव्रता का भूकंप मेरे राज्य में आया।)
- When the earthquake hit, we were having dinner.
While the earthquake hit, we were having dinner (wrong)
(While/when = during the time)
whether or चाहे/दोनों में से कौन सा – Expressing a doubt or choice between alternatives
- You can ask me any kind of questions in maths whether it’s difficult or easy ones. (आप मुझसे गणित में किसी भी प्रकार के प्रश्न पूछ सकते हैं चाहे वह कठिन हो या आसान।)
whilst, while, whereas — जबकि – during the same time; it’s used to compare two different facts or situations
